Background Information

Today, UNHCR staff in 125 countries continue to help and protect millions of refugees, returnees, internally displaced and stateless people.

Based in the UNHCR office in London, UK, this is a unique opportunity to gain experience within the UN system as part of UNHCR's Division of External Relations, specifically working within the Private Sector Partnership Service. This will be an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in refugee issues to gain first-hand experience in private sector fundraising, in both individual and leadership giving.

Duties and Responsibilities

 In close consultation with the field and HQ, prepare reports for corporate and foundation donors on funding received.
 Assist with ad hoc prospect research on corporate/foundation leads and occasionally write project proposals for corporate and foundation donors.
 Draft thank you letters and relevant correspondence for donors as well as copy for fundraising documents, e-newsletters and appeals.
 Providing support with the organisation and assistance of PSP fundraising events as needed.
 Assist in organising appeals.
 Completing other duties as assigned.


The selected PSP intern will be based in London, UK.


The selected intern will be expected to begin on Monday 30th October 2017 and be available for a minimum of 3 months (maximum 6 months). The role is full time 9.00am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday.

Please note that this is a full-time position for a minimum of 3 months, and applicants are advised to consider whether they can commit full time before applying. Part-time positions are not available.
Please further note that the terms of internship as defined by UNHCR practice, preclude payment of any kind.

Essential Minimum Qualifications and Professional Experience Required

 Excellent drafting and editing skills
 Fluency in English and strong communication skills
 Proven research and organizational abilities
 Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
 Experience with online research and knowledge of digital media
 Experience using MSRP or similar income recording programs preferred, willingness to learn essential
 Flexibility, organizational skills, ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple tasks
 Team player with proactive approach to work with proven ability to work independently and problem solve
 BA degree or higher
 Keen interest in refugee issues
 Availability to work full time (40 hours) for a 3-6 month period
