The Avenue Cookery School is a funky, fun and family-run business teaching cookery to all ages and abilities! We are a small bubbly team bursting with energy and drive seeking a like-minded Kitchen Porter to join our team and assist our chefs in both evening, day and weekend cookery classes.

The candidate will be offered full guidance and support. Our team have years of experience and heaps of knowledge ready to share with the right person. If you have a passion for food or want to pursue a career in food in any way, it is a great way to learn about food, teaching and kitchen ‘need-to-knows’!

The candidate will need to be extra efficient, reliable, with a spot-on initiative around the kitchen. We are looking for someone with a laid back character who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty! It's not for the faint of heart as the kitchen is fast paced and will involve helping the chefs mis en place, cleaning, tidying and general kitchen upkeep, including washing up and deep cleans.

No reason for clock watching, thumb twiddling or personal phone use - a get things done attitude is essential! The role will include ensuring basic cleaning jobs are carried out as quickly as possible, collecting and washing up pots and pans, keeping the storeroom organised along with polishing surfaces and cleaning the floors. In addition to keeping our beautiful kitchen sparkling clean, the candidate will occasionally be involved in food preparation. Often helping with measuring, peeling, unwrapping ingredients and helping to prepare for classes!

Due to the nature of our family-run business, it’s important the person we work with is extremely hard working and disciplined but loves a laugh! We are an easy going bunch and it’s not a ‘clock-work’ operation. We are all straightforward and to the point so need someone who can take constructive criticism as well as be honest back. Being a true grafter, highly organised, tidy and flexible in the role is a must! The shifts are on a sporadic basis so great to fit in around other jobs. Our classes run days but especially evenings and weekends. We do not expect you to be able to attend all the classes but reliability on the ones you are booked on is a must.

Please make your application personal and specific to the job- I will not read past the first line if it is a generic email - we are a personal company and want to work with like-minded people.

None required - just a real grafter!!!!
