If you would like to get valuable experience in an online publishing environment and develop a work experience portfolio with a leading web publication, we are offering this internship to help. This role is ideal if you are a student or have just completed your education and are interested in a career in digital journalism and media. Please note this is a volunteer-based role. Expenses are paid where applicable. This role comes with a free online training programme and editorial support to help you develop into a versatile features writer for our award-winning online publication targeting British South Asian and global South Asian audiences (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Canada, USA etc). REQUIREMENT - We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual who will write and contribute a lifestyle feature article on a weekly basis to develop their online writing experience. In this role, you will be fully encouraged and trained to develop very valuable skills in an online environment, supported by the senior editorial team via Zoom, email and other online resources. - You will need excellent skills in written/spoken UK English, good proofreading skills and the ability to work to tight timescales. - Areas of lifestyle writing can include Arts & Culture, Fashion, Gaming, Technology, Health, Fitness, Beauty, Food, Film, TV, Bollywood, Sports and Trends. - Awareness of British and South Asian culture (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi etc.), and lifestyle will be very advantageous. KEY SKILLS; As part of this role, you shall gain experience in the following: * Writing weekly lifestyle features and entertainment articles in a good online format * Researching apt features for the publication * Brainstorming ideas for new content * Working with the senior editorial team to produce timely articles * Writing, editing and proof-reading articles * Learning to select and edit images for stories * Development of online writing skills to produce stories fully credited to you * Participating in online editorial meetings and reviews * Learning about how an online publication works Any experience in using blogging tools such as WordPress, Blogger, Drupal etc. for this role will be useful but not essential as training will be provided. WHAT WE OFFER - Online Development Programme (ODP) in Writing and Mobile Journalism - 1-1 Senior Team Mentoring and Reviews - Regular Online Writing Workshops - A fully credited portfolio to your name - Reference for future jobs QUALIFICATIONS - Being available and organised to contribute weekly articles - Excellent command of UK English - both written and spoken. - Being educated or educated to degree or diploma level standard, ideally in a good English discipline or Media related. - Good computer experience e.g. Word and Internet use - Any experience working in media e.g. radio, newspaper, online desirable but not essential - Good communication skills - Keen and open-minded to learn about editorial and publishing high-quality content - Any basic photo-editing tools will be very useful (but you will be trained). - Knowledge of British Asian and South Asian cultures - desirable but not essential Please note a full free training programming and mentoring in digital media are provided for this internship. Therefore, In order to gain experience in this role; commitment, enthusiasm and initiative are important for the complete period. If you are Birmingham or West Midlands based, then you will have the chance to attend a team day every week in our office.
