1. It's worth taking the risk
Your challenge to travel abroad for work seems smaller when you see the results upon landing in the UK. It may seem frightening to get on an aeroplane to a new destination over the Atlantic. It is still more fearful to know that for the whole of your journey you won't see anybody you know. But it is worth the risk completely.
2. Explore Extensively
For your chosen career path this is indeed going to be a significant learning opportunity. Simply request if you'd like to try new things! They're going to say 'no' to the worst. The more you ask, the more you'll learn. Go through it, even though you don't want to do anything. You must be willing to do the tough or dull jobs as an intern - this is not personal! There's always the possibility to acquire interesting propositions, especially if you volunteer for completing unwanted tasks.
3. Stay in Action, even on the Bad Days
Bad days are common during first days of internships. You don’t know anything, or anyone, and you are bound to make mistakes. But that's how you know the difference between the right way and the wrong way of completing any task.
When things go wrong you would be able to take the required action. But act quickly to avoid any more issues. Take a step back, discuss with your manager and understand if they want things done in a particular manner, so you can improvise.
4. Learn the Culture
Move around the city, visit the places and people, and network a little so you get an idea of how the city moves. The usual working hours, the way people like to wind out and spend their evenings, getting a hang of the transport and infrastructure will help you commute through the city easily.
5. Don’t worry about long working hours
Most of the UK cities don’t sleep early, stay assured. And for interns there might be longer hours of working and training and engaging in other official activities. And that I why you need a good memory with maps, public transport, diners, and much more, so you are not lost when you leave late from the office.
6. Try to Maintain Documents
You might land for an internship in any industry of your choice but make sure to document the process and other important papers because you are in a new country where paperwork might be required at any time. Be it visa extension or for other purposes, keep the documentation proper, so you can produce them without facing problems.
There is much that you can learn if you decide to intern in UK. Offering all types of internships, this place will help you grow tremendously. Workplaces are almost similar everywhere, but work cultures matter the most. If you want to get the best work experiences, do not let go of the opportunity to get an internship in UK.
