Graduated, now what?

7 Reasons for Candidates to Opt for Paid Internships

When people are deciding whether or not to take an internship, they sometimes have some doubts. When you first graduate, you often don't have enough experience to get a full-time job, so your only options are internships, apprenticeships, and work experience. But if you want to get an internship, you have to choose something that pays. Why? We've put together a list of reasons why you should choose a paid internship.
7 Reasons for Candidates to Opt for Paid Internships

A lot of students waste their best months opting for unpaid internships or charity works. They sure learn a lot, but they also aren’t motivated enough to continue with the same. Money is a huge rewarding factor, especially for Gen Z, and why shouldn’t it be? They hold diverse skills, ample knowledge, have zeal to learn and work well.

The employment market is evolving rapidly and to gain as much as possible it is important to understand the point where paid jobs become a must for you. Why should you do that? Let’s take a look below:

1.   Gain Valuable Work Experience

When you get paid, you know you’ve got the capabilities, and that with the right atmosphere and training, they will only get better. Unpaid internships are no big deal, but to get paid you have to make efforts. When you get selected, you believe that your efforts have paid off, which leads us to the second point.

2.    Confidence Boost:

You will feel confident. When see yourself moving ahead of others and grabbing the opportunity, you automatically gain become self-assured. You got that internship because of your skills which cannot be achieved by everyone. This confidence leads to do better work, and often.

3.    You Offer More:

When you get paid, you offer more than what you should or can. It’s a fact. NACE’s Student Survey says that paid interns will always want to work more because of the full time job opportunities waiting for them. Monetary rewards are always rewarding, in this case both for the employee and the employer.

4.    You Take the Internship Seriously:

With monthly stipend you become more responsible towards your job and there are lesser chances of you taking them for granted. Because you know you will keep the job only if you perform and stay productive, as a part of human nature, you inevitably take the offered internship seriously.

5.    You Work on Yourself:

With a job in your kitty, a regular bank balance, new skills being learnt, working with new people at a new workplace, you also start to focus on yourself. You will groom yourself well, your dress up, body language, conduct, etc. changes, because why not? A professional must look and act like one!

6.    You Receive Better Training and Projects:

There is no doubt that employers who pay their interns also pay attention to the training material and features. They hire the best, and they also expect their interns to turn up as better team players or even full time members by the end of the internship.

7.    You Become a Part of the Team:

You become a team member of sorts when you are a paid intern. You get invited to company events, get together, technical sessions, where you learn and network to build your professional profile. People include you in discussions if you interact the right way.

No career is smooth. Every job you’ll do would be full of ups and downs in the forms of learnings, lessons and improving your skills base. Getting paid for your contributions to the company will help you analyse your next steps, take more chances, and succeed in whatever you chose to do.
