Equipping your Social Media Accounts for Employers

Throughout the employment process, several companies admit to looking into a candidate's social media profiles. What, therefore, can job-seekers do to improve the likelihood that their various online profiles will catch the attention of prospective employers? It's crucial to your job search success that your own social media profiles are kept clean and appropriate at all times.

Equipping your Social Media Accounts for Employers
Since long, social media has proven useful above and beyond posting of hotshot celebrities and school prom pictures. Today, it is considered a strong tool to promote your professional profile. As per a recent survey more than 25% of candidates have landed their jobs through social media profiles. Recruiters are looking for their future employees at such sites.
Regardless of how social media and job hunt overlap, you should do all that is possible to make your online self, profession oriented for potential employers. Below we have listed 6 pointers to help you optimise the same:

Create an appropriate profile
Make sure your profile is thorough. Mention your complete education, any volunteer jobs, additional internships, skills and talents. Try to think through a recruiter's eyes—nobody would like a half-written summary, or worse, an empty page.

Maintain it professionally
No party pictures where you look drunk and proud. There is nothing really private on the Internet. A prospective employment opportunity would be gone before it even reaches you simply due to that (innocent) hot photoshoot you got done. If you don't want the employer to view something, you better keep it offline, or at least behind highest security settings, for friends only.

Connect with professional groups.
There are several large groups in the social networks which link you to similar job-seekers and provide sectoral insights.  It is OK to join a few, but make sure you are mostly involved in groups related to your real or targeted jobs. Employer recruiters are also a part of such groups and shortlist relevant profiles on a regular basis.

Maintenance of your profile
Just don't make a profile and let the dust gather. All your social media platforms need to remain active if you are looking for a job and want the employer to notice your skill sets. Learnt a new skill? Add it to your profiles. Created new photography album, post it to your SM handles without wasting time. Use relevant hashtags to grab attention.

Mention correct Email ID and other contact info
What if a recruiter decides to get in touch with you about the prospect of a job? Will they be able to locate your contact details without clicking links after links? Always make sure your email details are updated correctly and are easily available to those trying to contact you. Employers don't like making additional efforts to acquire your contact information.

Emphasise on the relevant skills and accomplishments
Be cautious about what you choose to bring to the fore in your profile summary and professional history. In place, try talking about particular targets you achieved, and strengthen your assertions by facts and numbers.
