Crafting Your Profile

Importance of Keeping Your Social Media Profiles Clean

Many employers and recruiters will look at your profiles on social media before they hire you, so make sure they are clean before you submit job applications. Many of us are very comfortable with the social media landscape. It's a brilliant way to stay in touch with people and tell them about your life. But it's essential to keep in mind that everything you share on social media is accessible to anyone, including prospective employers.

Importance of Keeping Your Social Media Profiles Clean
If candidates or young students want to get a job, it's important to fix their social media profiles. Employers these days check out your past and present thoroughly, during recruitment. Your online presence plays an important role in your selection or rejection.
Before attending an interview, they might want to check their own profiles and social media to make sure the facts are correct.

Most businesses today like to look at a candidate's social media sites and get rid of anyone who doesn't meet their job requirements. They do this before making a final decision about hiring the person who made the short list.

Facebook is the first site to be considered by most employers, given the vast base of Facebook users. Companies also have their business accounts set up on this platform which makes it easier for them to check out the candidate profiles.
Employers also monitor the social media activity of their workers. Twitter, Instagram, Myspace are other famous websites for social networking that employers go through. Hence, there are quite a few things that candidates should refrain from posting online to grab that dream job without any pre-conceived notions from the employers.

1.    Improper Pictures:
It might cost you your career if you have unsuitable images on your social media profiles. Employers are not only interested in the type of pictures you upload online, they are also attentive towards your lifestyle. The major element that makes a candidate unable to secure a job is when the candidate's social media accounts contain offensive pictures. Your application might get rejected irrespective of the wonderful CV you created.

2.    Racist Posts:
If the employer finds that its potential employees have a habit of commenting racist remarks on profiles or creating posts about the same, they might let go of your application because no one wants to work with such a person. No matter what your beliefs are, be super careful about whatever you post.

3.    Religious Remarks:
Similar to the racist remarks, companies do not want to have employees who carry religious bias ness. Religious abuse is simply unacceptable in a corporate set up. Even a single post with such points would go against your whole candidature.

4.    Posting about Indecent Behaviour:
Some firms check alcoholism and substance abuse for their staff. They can also examine the prospects for alcohol and drug usage in the process of selecting new workers. A candidate marked by alcohol, unlawful substances and harmful conduct may risk every opportunity of being recruited. This image can be used as proof of their bad behaviour.

5.    Fake Information:
Social networking sites usually enable users to mention their personal data and boast about their skills and job experiences. All of this information found online may be used by employers to compare with the data already on the CV of the job candidate. Any differences detected are a solid justification for the person being a fake, leading to rejection of their CV.

You can definitely set your profiles to private in order to avoid employers going through them. But if you do not plan to do so, it’s essential that you post anything mindfully. Alternatively, put in your best skills out there to improve your job prospects and increase the chances of selection.
