5 Essentials to Workplace Communication for Interns
We undoubtedly think about how to communicate effectively, professionally, and responsibly practically every day, whether at work, university, or home. To what extent could body language and tone be considered "acceptable" in a given situation? If so, is there a better method to get your message through more effectively? Most people do not pay much attention to how they interact. Their manner, approach, or even emails, are interpreted by others around them. The three most important parts of communication are "what you say, how you say it, and how the audience understands it."

A person may say something and then receive an entirely different reply than what they expected. For example, why are certain communications perceived differently than others? How do individuals consider "acceptable" communication while talking to each other?
Communication is, in fact, a very subjective term. If you want to improve your communication skills, this article is for you!

Your Delivery and Their Recieval
So, when you talk or interact with someone, it may not always be clear what you mean. Misunderstanding is probably the most common cause of confusion in our society today. People may hear what you say in a very different way. Often, what you mean to say and what other people hear are not the same thing. Knowing the difference between the purpose of your speech and its interpretation is important, especially at work.
As a new intern, you will get a lot of chances to show how well you can talk to people. Think about what you're saying, how you're saying it, and how your co-workers, bosses, and clients might interpret that.

Body Language
People might not always consider their body language as a kind of communication. Yet it is something that can have totally different implications in various cultures. A person's body language may be determined by their gestures, facial expressions, and attitude.
Eye contact, nodding, and staying focused while speaking are vital communication traits. Body language signals such as these can help individuals communicate more effectively.

Manner of Speaking
There is an element of body language and intent involved when it comes to your tone. Your audience is less likely to respond well if they perceive you as unfriendly, angry, or annoyed. Keeping it warm, friendly, full of kindness, also while being a good listener keeps people interested in your talks.
This is especially important if you want to discuss your feedback or a project with your superior. The speaking style can make or break the deal hence, it’s crucial to stay mindful of the same at workplace.

Written Form of Communication
Communication professionalism goes beyond oral expressions. The same professional decorum should be applied to written communication. Be it through paper, note, digital/online or any other type.
During my career, I have received several emails that were riddled with spelling and grammatical mistakes. They were devoid of formal introductions, and did not even have a subject line or signature. Emailing your manager, co-worker, professor, or customer regularly is different from messaging friends. Be careful and keep it professional.

Cite instances
Be as explicit as you can in your communications. Using specific examples is a great way to get your point through when asking for clarification on a project or when explaining a problem you're having with a project. It's helpful to give examples and be very detailed when providing feedback, especially honest feedback.
If you want others to learn and improve as a result of your comments, you must be specific about what needs to shift.

Your formal communication should enhance as you go through university and into the internship. Email protocols—what, how, and how it's received—should be followed.
