6 Mistakes Interns Make that Can Cost their Internship
An internship is a useful part of career growth. Why? Because it lets students become experts in a certain field and learn how to act and work professionally. Employers look for internships as one of the first things on a CV, so students no longer have the option of not doing one.
It goes without saying that if you want to get the most out of your internship, you need to be proactive. If you don't, you could lose your hard-won internship.
Now, we know that when young people get this job, they often get too excited about it and start taking it for granted.
Here are some of the most common mistakes that interns make, according to their bosses. These mistakes could cost them a job after their internship is over.

1.    Taking the Internship for granted:
The internship must be approached professionally by the students. Setting expectations in advance will help decide what you want to do and how you will do it. Because we live and work in a global economy, students need to know how dynamic and competitive the world is.

2.    Unable to manage Time:
A lot of youngsters fail to adhere to the office reporting timings, by coming in late or not informing of the same. It does not sit well with bosses that you come in late or take long breaks at lunch. As an intern, you have to abide by the office's laws and rules. In fact, arrive at least 10mins earlier that the reporting time and see how it impresses your superiors.

3.    Disregarding office policies and culture:
If there is a certain dress code, follow it. If there are policies for days off, understand those. If there is process to apply for certain incentives or documentation, follow the right way. If you have any difficulties, talk to your manager. And if you are not doing this and try to simply bypass all rules and regulations, you will find a termination letter soon in your inbox.

4.    Avoiding communication with others:
Establishing work relationships is important. Especially as an intern this is all the most essential because by talking to different team members, mentors and leaders will help you grow professionally as well as personally. After the internship, you can stay in touch with them to grab the company's job opportunities.

5.    Failing to follow the performance evaluation feedback:
At times your productivity levels might come out lower than expected. That’s when your manager will provide you with the feedback. Your job is to take it seriously and not lightly. Your internship will decide your future career path so not taking these feedbacks earnestly won’t help you.

6.    Lack of Initiatives:
You lack initiative taking capability. Don't just sit back and wait until the next one after you complete your job. Take the lead and seek to support others at the workplace. It isn't enough that your boss only understands that you're a champion. Buck up and take the front seat by learning from other key players in your company. That’s how you grow and succeed.

It can be certainly be intimidating to put yourself out there as interns. There are moments when you'd prefer to be on the sidelines. This is where fail to see that it is not a winning strategy for either yourselves or the business. Making the most of this opportunity would go a long way in building a strong career. Ensure that you put your best foot out while interning and avoid taking it for granted.
