Grabbing Interview Opportunities

What Should You Wear to Internship Interviews

The clothes you wear to a job interview will leave an immense impact on your potential employer. Although how you dress for an interview is largely a question of personal preference, there are some rules that can help you put your best foot forward. Find out what the employees wear on a daily basis by doing some preliminary research on the organisation and then try to one-up them in your interview attire.

What Should You Wear to Internship Interviews
Getting interviewed is a key step in getting hired. Likewise, dressing up appropriately for the interview is equally important, as it gives a fair glimpse of your personality. One has to pay special attention while appearing for interviews since you would be in front of the interview panel.
But what is the best attire to choose while readying for a video interview? This may depend on the type of job/industry you have selected to start your career with.

Let’s take a look in this article what to wear for interview for both males and females for every type of interview/job role. Usually a job interview means wearing formal clothes. For both Males and Females, this would differ accordingly.

Interview Outfits for Men:
•    Shirts: Full sleeved shirts of solid colours or chequered ones are normally preferred to be worn for interviews.
•    Suits/Blazers: A formal suit or a blazer would be a good option to go with the shirts while attending an interview. The most opted colours for this attire are grey, navy blue, black and dark brown.
•    Trouser/Pants: Formal pants or well fitted trousers go well with shirts and blazers and complete the formal look for men. Plain trousers of bland colours work better.
•    Footwear: Plain white socks with a pair of formal shoes, preferable dark brown or black, that are comfortable, clean and well-kept are the best choices in footwear when men go for an interview.
•    Accessories: A tie that compliments your shirt, a solid textured formal belt, formal wristwatch, and a minimal look laptop bag would add up to your complete formal look and will make you look a dedicated and mature candidate.

Interview Outfits for Women:
•    Pant suit: A well fitted trouser pant, with crisp solid colour shirt makes the women candidates look good while going for an interview.
•    Shirt: Full sleeves shirt with pants or pencil skirts of solid colours make for a professional look. Small prints on shirt are also acceptable.
•    Formal Dress: A formal dress that is well fitted, sans any frills or lace, knee-length, in neutral colours looks good as a formal wear for females while appearing for interview.
•    Footwear: Formal shoes with block heels or pumps are considered professional. Choose neutral shades like black, tan, and beige for a better look. Make sure the pumps are comfortable to walk in.
•    Accessories: Females love to accessorise but in the case of interviews, carrying a basic handbag that could contain all required documents, along with a formal wristwatch would give you a respectable touch.
•    Hair and Makeup: Keep the makeup minimal while using nude shades for lip colour, as well as for nail colour. The hair should be neatly styled and should not make you awkward.

A point here to note is: even if it’s a video call, make sure you are dressed properly as if you are sitting for a face to face interview. Do not take the mode of interview for granted.

Points to remember for both male and female dress up:

1.    Make sure to keep your clothes neat and clean.
2.    Make sure they are wrinkle free.
3.    Wearing a mild deodorant would be a nice touch.
4.    Avoid wearing loud colours or accessorising yourself with brash items.
5.    Keep the overall look subtle and professional.

It’s important that you dress up more professionally than the rest of the employees at the company, no matter the work culture they follow. Invest in some good business formal as well as casuals should you require appearing for the interview at a company with less formal work culture.
Avoid wearing exposing or ill fitted clothes. Your clothing and professionalism will impress the interview panel even if you are not selected for the role. The future has endless possibilities, and you never know when you get selected there again.
