How To Introduce Yourself As A New Intern

You must be preparing for your first week as an intern. You've arrived at the proper location. Even if you aren't starting an internship anytime soon, the advice in this piece can help you prepare for the first few days. Introduce yourself as a first step. The only thing people know about you is that you're the new intern. Use the following advice to help you introduce yourself to your colleagues.
How To Introduce Yourself As A New Intern
It doesn’t matter if you join a small firm or a large enterprise. As an intern your introduction to the rest of the team is a vital part of onboarding program. Presenting oneself correctly is important for creating personal as well as professional connections with the managers, trainers as well as teammates
Early introductions should ideally be undertaken by the Department of Human Resources or by your supervisor. But you may need to take matters into your own hands if he or she does not follow through. If this happens, be proactive in presenting yourself to your new work by using any or all of these strategies.

1.    Step Up and Take Initiative

Introducing yourself in person to your team members is a great way to make a positive first impression as a new intern. It shows that you are easy to interact with and ready to work as a teammate with everyone. A simple intro including your name, education qualifications, hobbies and the team you’ll be working with as an intern.

2.    Understand the Team Structure

Knowing who’s who in the company, as well as in your team would be a wise start. You would want to know about your reporting manager, and others involved in your training and development. You can always approach the HR department for such a document or chart to make things easy for you.

3.    Highlight What You Bring to the Team

Discuss how you plan to contribute to the team during your internship, highlighting your eagerness to learn and add value. Get some idea about the same beforehand, from your manager. This may help the rest of team members consider your role for full time job later on.

4.    Follow the same if your join remotely

Don’t think that with virtual onboarding you won’t introduce yourself.  It is all the more important with remote working, and you must do so with the help of online tools like video calls, email or audio calls.

5.    Communicate with Clarity and Confidence

Hesitation won’t help. It’s a small intro that should be done with clarity and self-assurance. In case you aren’t good at public speaking, try preparing a speech first. If you want to make a mark on your teammates, now’s the time to do that.

6.    Avoid trying to be Funny

That’s not required unless someone asks you a fun question from your audience. Otherwise, just be polite and formal, including all the necessary details about yourself, as mentioned in point one.

Starting your internship with such small yet essential steps will lead to a firm career path for yourself. Early communication with your team might allow you to develop a firm basis for working partnerships. Quick introductions lead to better interpersonal relationships with co-workers.
