The Benefits of Conducting Multiple Interviews for Interns

Most businesses and HR departments would never hire someone full-time without conducting at least one more interview. However, there are those who believe a single meeting is sufficient when interviewing interns. After all, in their minds, it's just an internship and they have no intention of staying permanently. Having a second discussion with suitable individuals who received mediocre reactions from different panel members is a simple way to improve the quality of the applicants you ultimately consider for the position.
The Benefits of Conducting Multiple Interviews for Interns
Employers with a structured internship program understand the benefits of multiple interviews in the internship interview process. Just because its interns, one may not take that position and hiring for it, casually. Also, interns are willing to work at your company because they trust that their career will get a good start. They believe that they would learn and train better and that they would get to be a full-time employee at your company.

Employers must not forget that hiring interns require the same level of efforts. There is a costing involved, so why not dig a little deeper and hire the best of the lot? Conducting a second or even a third round helps ensure candidates are the right fit, highlighting the advantages of a multi-stage interview approach. Hiring managers should take out time to go through the feedback of first round of interviews. Accordingly, they should call the candidates for a second round to avoid making any decision in haste. Benefits of having more than one rounds of interview?

•    Interviewers will get a better idea about the personality and skill set of the candidate. Sometimes, during the initial round, the interviewer may skip asking some questions. They later on realise about the miss. Hence a second round should be conducted to remove any remaining doubts about the candidate.

•    In the first round of interview, an interviewer may find them good enough to be hired. However, that feedback may not seem sufficient for the other members of the panel. Hence, calling them for second round helps interviewers get a firm grasp on the conduct and additional skill set of a candidate.

•    Interns feel more confident when it comes to the second or third round of interviews because they become familiar of the process. They open up better and talk freely about their experiences, expectations, passion. That helps the interview panel decide about them better.

•    Different interviewers will get different and all-round feedback for the same candidate. If the candidate gets selected, it would be a plus for both. The candidate will get to meet new members. It would be satisfying for the panel that candidate was qualified after being interviewed thoroughly.

Generally, for interns, two rounds are enough but if you feel they require one more interview to be considered a good hire, don’t hesitate to go for that. Try out verbal as well as written ways to interview a candidate. Tell them to showcase their talent by giving small assignments or holding mini-contests. Better sure than feeling sorry later. With an organised process in place, it won’t seem like too many interviews.
