How to manage interns

Addressing Mental Wellness of Interns

Interns experience greater incidence of severe anxiety than the regular populace due to the unique pressure of making the shift during their internship period. Despite the well-documented prevalence of intern stress and burn out,, we hoped to explore some aspects that can help ease these problems through this article. Addressing mental wellness of interns is as important as for other employees.

Addressing Mental Wellness of Interns
Internships are a common way for many, if not all, interns to get expertise and launch their careers. Nonetheless, they do have life outside their internship. Many interns are also full-time students or working professionals.
Having so much responsibility might be stressful for some people. Interns are expected to produce high-quality work regardless of their workload or stress levels. Yet if they're constantly stressed, they won't be able to produce work that meets standards.

The interns' mental health is an important part of their overall health. It can have a huge effect on their professional and personal growth. Interns often have to deal with a lot of problems like :
  • Getting used to a new work environment,
  • Learning new skills, and
  • Balancing their work, which can be stressful and cause anxiety.
It is important for companies to put interns' mental health and well-being at the top of their list of priorities. This can be done by giving them access to resources and help.
  • Offer counselling services, employee assistance programmes, and training about mental health.
  • Employers can also create a culture that encourages employees to take breaks and focus on self-care and a good balance between work and life.
Interns can improve their mental health by setting boundaries, prioritising self-care, and seeking help from colleagues or mental health specialists. Mindfulness, meditation, and exercise can reduce stress and enhance health.

Overall, interns' personal and professional success, as well as the success of the organisation as a whole, depend on how well their mental health is taken care of. By putting mental health first and offering support, organisations can make the workplace a good place to grow, learn, and be healthy.
