Smart Things to Do Before Signing the Job Offer
It’s a great feeling when you receive that much awaited job offer from companies. You get all ready to pack your office bag and start the preparations, forgetting the important points that you need to check before you actually sign the offer. There is a reason brands and companies mention Terms and Conditions* clause for people to go through. Same is the case with offer letters. If you are smart enough, you would like to pay attention to the following points, so you don’t end up regretting your decision later.

1.    Salary and Benefits
One of the most important aspects to look out for is the salary offered, its overall break up, what would be your in hand amount, the bonuses, any pension plans, variable payments, their frequency. Check their criterion and if you are satisfied, you can move on to the next sections of the offer.

2.    Leave Benefits
One cannot work 24*7*365 days, hence, understanding the overall leave benefits provided by the company is important. Some points to take care of:
•    Number of holidays in a year
•    The holiday year start and end
•    The periods when you cannot take holidays in spite of having them
•    If the remaining leaves can be forwarded to the next year
•    If the remaining leaves can be encashed

3.    Hours of Work
Of course some jobs require more bandwidth than others, but that doesn’t mean you keep on doing them 22 hours out of 24. Clear out the standard working hours that would be required from you for the given job role. You can also discuss the weekends working, running shifts or rotations (if any), are employees paid for doing any extra hours. Assure that you can follow the work pattern as required but how would that be compensated?

4.    Designation and Roles/Responsibilities
Without this info, how will you know what you have to do? So either understand this in the interview itself, or if later, before you join the company. When you are aware of your designation and role, you can prepare yourself accordingly. Also check if that is in sync with the role you actually applied for. Understand if you would require to shoulder any additional responsibilities during the course, or if it’s a senior role, having an executive designation probably won’t justify it. SO be very smart about this.

5.    Job Location
You have the right to know where you’ll be working from. If they promise something in the interview and mention another location in your offer, question them and get clarity. It’s possible that you may find it tough to commute on a daily basis, so they can arrange for your placement at your current location. Else, would they be happy to reimburse the overboard travel costs?

6.    Remote working
Though many companies prefer this these days, it’s still better to ask beforehand to avoid any confusion later. The working schedule for remote working, meeting tools and techniques that would be a prerequisite, hardware and software installation, number of times you would have to report to office in any given month, etc.

7.    Notice Period
Last but not the least, understand the notice period policy in the company. If the notice period is too long, you mace face issues later, so discuss this beforehand, and if too short, you may find yourself without a job and salary for the transition period.
These are some essential points you need to take acre of while accepting any job offer. If you are smart, it will only increase your value. Your actual elation on receiving the job offer depends on how you can make the most of it.

It can be exhilarating to receive a job offer, especially if you've been involved in a lengthy job hunt. So you should not accept the first offer you receive. Before accepting the offer, ensure you have a thorough understanding of the position's responsibilities and that it meets your needs.
