1. Go through the Offer Carefully:
Read the offer, the salary, benefits, policies, everything mentioned in your offer, cautiously. Note down if any of the points bother you, so you can discuss them with the employer. Until then, do not sign it. Take second consultation if required. But if you are satisfied with the terms and conditions, you may go ahead and seal it.
2. Respond to the employers:
In case you have any queries, get them resolved, via either a phone all or through email. You may take up to 24-36 hours in responding but try not to drag your response beyond that. Once all your questions are answered, you should make sure to respond back to their offer email citing your approval, so your job is secured.
3. Respond to the rest of job offers:
You must have applied at other companies as well. But now that you’ve received your preferred job, it’s your duty to close the other applications and let them know that you are unavailable for taking up their positions as of now.
4. Complete employee documentation:
After your approval of job offer, employers usually send a bunch of formalities to be completed by the candidate. That involves paperwork, identity proofs, photographs, and other data for a seamless employee onboarding. So complete that as per the instructions, and by sending the accurate information.
5. Express Gratitude:
Thank the employer, as well as all those whom you connected with. People who helped you with the job prospects and leads, who might have helped you gain company info or prepare for the interviews even. They deserve a simple “Thank You”. So make it a point to do so.
It's been a long time coming, so landing your first job is definitely cause for celebration. But, clearly, that this is not the end of the road—you're just beginning! A first job is where you can lay the groundwork for a successful career. By following some small steps you can learn to manage your way in the corporate.
