Mistakes to Avoid While Creating Your CV
A CV is an insight into your professional profile, your skill set, your capabilities and your suitability for a particular role. There have been various ways in which CVs are designed these days, the digital platform being quite a popular one. There are these amazing employment job boards like Graduatewise.com that offer the candidates for creating their online CV with minimal details. It’s awesome that you don’t have to go through the hassle of creating a flawless CV manually.
But candidates need to avoid making a number of mistakes on their CVs. If they do, even the best CVs can be turned down. Lets’ take a look at what all you can exempt from your CV to make it an ideal one.

1.    Improper Email Address:
Please don’t mention your high school email address that is a tribute to your first crush, namely, Loveyouforever@xyz.com. Create an email address that can be used for professional purposes.

2.    Irregular formatting:
Although Graduatewise.com resolves this issue, you still need to understand, which section should come where on your CV. It should be formatted well because poor formatting won't gain the recruiter attention at any cost.

3.    Length of CV:
Essays are not required while applying for internships. Maximum 2-page CV is good enough to mention your skills and achievements. Also, a one liner for everything would not give proper info about yourself. Create a balance of right information load for the respective audience. Make sure your CV info isn’t exceeding its limits but gives the required details.

4.    Dishonest Information:
Lies may get you blacklisted from various reputed companies because information travels real fast. There is no wisdom in mentioning incorrect information, salary, address, achievements, and titles, to secure an internship. Remember, BGC is a huge part of recruitment these days and one wrong info may cost you your entire career.

5.    Fancy Fonts:
Stick to standard fonts like Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman that can be easy to read, and are clear. Not too big or too small fonts as well, which could make your CV look crowded. Clear fonts make the CV look neat, and systematic. Recruiters know what skills they want to see on a CV, so if you experiment with a new design or layout, it might be harder for them to find the details they want.

6.    Cluttered CV:
Another mistake that candidates can do is putting their information in a random order. Its always preferred to have your recent experience/skills on top and go down from there. Keep it chronological if possible. No one likes a profile if it's not arranged correctly.

7.    Superfluous intro:
No one wants to know about your eating habits or your sun sign. Employers look for skill sets and experience related information, so better stick to those lines instead of putting in uncalled-for information or any motivating quotes. Understand that a normal CV screen time lasts for 7 seconds. You think the busy teams would like to spend more time on your CV?

8.    Awkward Hobbies:
One more mistake candidates make is to mention weird hobbies in their CV. It’s not that people don’t have them, it’s just that not all of them require a mention on your professional profile. You love to hunt, that’s great, but is that in sync with the software developer internship you are applying to? Be thoughtful, and selective.

9.    Incorrect Contact Details:
Nothing can be worse than mentioning incorrect phone number or email address on your CV. Imagine you are looking ahead to the interview call, and it never comes, only because you forgot to mention the last digit of your mobile phone. Double check before you upload anything.

Whatever you put into the details, they are being fed into the system, or the portals. That is served to the employers through those portals. You cannot really risk making such silly mistakes for something big like a CV. Digital CVs remove a lot of headache from formatting and other similar problems but even they require correct info.

It's not rocket science. You only have to be a little careful while creating your profile, specially while you are starting with your career. The above mistakes to avoid while creating your CV should help you get a positive start on the same.
