It doesn’t matter to what industry you are applying to; your online presence plays a very important role in today's employment scenario. It is not the same as it was years back. Recruiters pay acute attention to an applicant’s social media profiles and various other profiles that showcase their work in order to get a better idea about the candidate.

1. Staying unknown is harmful:
If you think about not having an online presence, or you chose to stay anonymous and simply put forth your CV and will get your dream job, then you are wrong. Employers look for candidates online as soon as they get their profile in their mailbox. An online profile gives them a better picture of the candidate than the Word document. Visuals and creativity play an important role in getting you that interview call.
2. Impacts trust and credibility:
In the current times, online presence is pretty much everything. When employers see that you are absent from social media platforms, or you are not active online, then it kind of questions your credibility. For e.g.: the question comes up: Is this guy even real? Has he written the truth in his CV? How come he does not have an online profile? So avoid that and create online portfolios for the employers to get a better idea of your skills.

By creating your online existence, companies get to know about what all skills you possess, and how beneficial are they for the company. For e.g., if you want a job as photographer, an online portfolio will help you tremendously. The employer would be able to witness your talent, and assess if you are the best fit for their company and culture. Moreover, you would be on priority for any projects that they may be coming up with. So showcasing your talents and skills digitally helps create your brand in employment market.
4. Recruiters connect better:
With your online presence, recruiters are able to connect with you better. Along with being able to look at your previous work, they will contact you through various online mediums. That is actually savvier than connecting through phone calls or emails always. Connecting with recruiters would always help in future because you never know when they contact you for their next golden position.
5. Networking to Grow:
Having an online presence will help you stay abreast with the latest trends in the employment sector as well as in your own industry. When you connect with professionals from all over the world, it helps enhance you profile and experience. More than you can think of, they will help you connect with the right company and job positions. You can add people know or want to know and connect with them at any stage to progress in your career.
In short, curating your digital profile is very important because it will help you big time in landing your dream internship. Staying visible and responsive on your various social media platforms as well as job boards is going to be a boon for you as a candidate. Employers connect with people more when they have an idea of what their life is like, apart from their CV.
