Crafting Your Profile

A Guide to Upload an Employable Profile Picture

Including a photo of yourself in your CV profile is highly recommended. Much like in a job interview, the initial impression you make on a professional connection or recruiter is the most important. Your CV profile picture works in tandem with your work experience and other credentials to sell you as a formidable candidate for employment or a reliable contact in the professional network. The best way to capture a professional shot and how to choose amongst them are detailed below. These standards apply equally well to any other platform where a corporate headshot is required.

A Guide to Upload an Employable Profile Picture
While updating your professional profile online, your profile picture also plays an important role. A professional picture helps create a similar persona of yourself in front of the employers. There are some things that all fresh graduates should keep in mind, because your profile picture would give an idea to the employer about how you would be suited in their work culture. First impressions are everything so let’s understand you can create that through your picture.

What should your picture include?
  1. Choose an image that symbolises your spirit and personality. Choose a decent image. Let them see your huge smile or those big framed spectacles. The picture should be such that allows the onlooker to sense your attributes. This is sometimes the sole visible interaction they can have with you. Use online photo editing tools to refine your picture, if you feel the chosen one needs some work.
  2. Your face should be completely visible, and the picture should be taken in proper light. You obviously don't want to go unknown to common people, so keep the editing minimal. You want your picture to be clear and bright, because companies are going to look at your profile and your real face should be well visible.
  3. Smile. Choose a photograph where you naturally smile. A smile will make your picture look nice and welcoming. I think that buddy will be able to take your shot easily and your smile more real. If you decide between a few photographs, ask several friends or relatives which photo makes you appear the best.
  4. Keep only Headshots. Since profile images typically display as previews, choose a picture that only exposes your head, neck and shoulders. If your whole body is seen in the picture, people may be unable to see your entire face or know you personally.
  5. Keep the Picture consistent and updated. Make sure you select a recently clicked picture of yourself so that others can identify you easily. Using age-old photos when you probably had braces on, and were in 9th grade won’t help. One excellent approach to build your brand is to use the same photo for all your social Media and other online accounts including your Gmail Profile.

What should they not include?
  1. Your Friendships, partners, or pet. You dont want to confuse the employers with multiple people in a picture, right?. Your relationship history or status isn't of any interest to them, nor would they hire you on the basis of that. So keep it a simple, single picture.
  2. A #selfie. Keep your images well positioned so that employers don't realise the approaching "trout pout" immediately. Any pictures taken as selfie and not looking professional or decent shouldn't be used for professional purposes.
  3. Partying or improper apparel. Clothes with lewd comments, swear phrases and photos will earn more "likes" on Instagram's profile rather than on professional websites. Also, unless you are looking for a job at fitness centre, showcasing your abs or waistlines isn't advised.
  4. Dim lit pictures. Any photo to be uploaded on professional websites must be taken in bright area, with proper light coming on to your face. A clear photo gives positive results as compared to a dull one.

If you want to be taken seriously as a corporate executive on your profile and CV, you need a professional image. A person's profile picture is often their first impression of them when they come across them online. Note that a good profile photo is professional, high-quality, and indicative of your identity and reputation. Ensure you work on this element of your CV to get more selections for internships.
