Types of Interviews Employers should Focus On

If you want to identify the best person for the job, you need to conduct interviews with them. Before you start looking for your next employee, familiarise yourself with the various sorts of interviews that are commonly utilised and when they are appropriate.

Types of Interviews Employers should Focus On
Interviewing is a vital step in recruitment process. The interview panel holds a major responsibility to hire the best candidates. This holds more ground while hiring interns. Now, it’s essential to note here that not all interviews can be same.
If you ask why? The answer is: Not all jobs or candidates are the same. It's important to understand the structure behind any position, so you can evaluate the candidates accordingly.

Below are a few types of interviews employers can make use of, to hire successfully.

1.    Group Interviews:
When several candidates are interviewed at one time, through an interview panel. Here they ask different set of questions to analyse the candidate value. This is a pretty cost-effective method to interview graduates that come with multiple skill sets. They also may or may not possess the vital attributes for the open position. This way you can compare between two or more candidates and take hiring decisions quickly.

2.    Skill Based Interviews:
The hiring panel would majorly focus on the skills of any candidate during such interviews. Competency based questions are asked, and even practical assignments/tests could be given to assess the capabilities.
These are mostly candid. Graduates possessing even small experiences usually clear these rounds because they are at least familiar with the concepts.

3.    Audio – Video Interviews:
Most recruiters connect with the applicants through telephonic rounds. These are the 1st rounds for screening and shortlisting of candidates. With remote working culture gaining speed, video interviews are becoming a favourite for most employers.
These help in interacting and connecting with the candidates better. So during situations where candidates cannot appear for in-person interviews or when companies want to save time and efforts, these are the best kind to go with.

4.    Personal Interviews:
Also known as face to face interviews, they are pretty common in employment industry. Once the candidates clear their 1st round (telephonic or video call), and get shortlisted for the next round, they have to appear for personal interviews.
The hiring panel assesses everything, starting from their
  • Body language,
  • Their communication,
  • Confidence,
  • Subject knowledge,
Their interest in the company and the job, and much more during such rounds. Even though video calls are in trend currently, a lot of companies prefer to have at least 1 face to face round to finalise the candidates.

Employers have the advantage of hiring candidates through various ways. But they also need to make sure about the interview panel being experienced enough. The young students are pretty smart to judge the capabilities of person/s interviewing them. An interview expert would always help the candidates trust the company with their interviewing style.

So no matter which method you choose to interview and hire for your team, executing it efficiently is what seals the deal.
