Job Description
Spoken is a boutique London-based firm, specialising in thought leadership and engagement programmes. We create partnerships, events and experiences with world-leading thinkers, speakers, and institutions and businesses.
We are looking for an IT and Product Intern to help us run, test and improve the systems the business depends on.
This is a first role. We are not looking for prior professional experience and it is not an advantage here. We would rather teach you how we work than ask you to unlearn how somewhere else does it. What matters is how carefully you think, how clearly you explain things, and how much you care about getting the detail right.
You will work closely with and under the guidance of our Digital and Technical.
This role would suit someone curious about how systems are actually made to work
- • not just how they are designed, but what happens when real people use them day to day and things go wrong.
The product side
Our team rely on a set of internal systems to do their jobs. You would be the person closest to them, and the one who turns what they experience into something we can act on.
We are looking for someone who can:
- • Run structured tests on new features and tools before they go live, working through test cases methodically
- • Write up issues clearly and reproducibly
- • what you did, what happened, what should have happened
- • Gather and organise feedback from colleagues using our systems day to day, and spot the patterns in it
- • Help plan and scope improvements by understanding how the work actually gets done
- • Test and monitor automated and AI-assisted processes, spotting where results drift or look wrong
- • Keep our data accurate enough that the systems relying on it can be trusted
That last point is the bridge between the two halves of this role. Systems working from unreconciled data produce unreliable results, so the data work and the product work are the same work.
The IT and operations side
We are also looking for someone who can:
- • Reconcile data across multiple systems, identifying and resolving discrepancies, duplicates and gaps
- • Document processes and write clear internal guides so knowledge is shared rather than held by one person
- • Provide first-line IT support to the internal team, logging and resolving requests and escalating where needed
- • Administer hardware and user accounts — device setup, equipment records, access and licences for joiners and leavers
- • Build and troubleshoot HTML email templates, and manage email sends and lists
- • Manage multiple work-streams simultaneously and work to tight deadlines
We want to be straightforward with you:
a meaningful part of this role is operational, and some of it is repetitive. We think that is a feature rather than a bug — the fastest way to understand how something works is to run the systems underneath it. As processes become documented and automated, the balance shifts further towards the product side.
You will:
- • Have exceptional attention to detail and the patience for precise, repetitive work
- • Have a high level of general computer literacy, including strong spreadsheet skills
- • Be able to write clearly and accurately, particularly when documenting processes and reporting problems
- • Be curious about how systems work, and why people struggle with them
- • Be comfortable learning unfamiliar systems and admin tools
- • Be approachable and patient with colleagues who find technology difficult
- • Handle confidential information appropriately
We welcome applications from graduates of any discipline. Computer science, information systems, HCI, design, data or engineering backgrounds are all relevant, and so is a humanities degree plus genuine curiosity. Familiarity with HTML and CSS, usability or user testing, spreadsheets beyond the basics, or any email or ticketing platform is an advantage, and none of it is expected.
We promise:
- • A paid internship. We do not advertise unpaid work
- • Close mentoring and real training, not sink-or-swim
- • A seat in planning conversations, and your feedback genuinely taken into account
- • Hands-on exposure to automation and AI tools.
- • A written reference, and an honest conversation about a permanent role if it works well on both sides
- • An incredible office (in Somerset House) shared with a dynamic team who are always growing and innovating!
To apply:
send your CV with a short note answering two questions:
Tell us about something you use regularly that is badly designed, and what you would change about it.
Tell us about a time you found a mistake others had missed, or caught a problem before it became one. It does not need to be work-related.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short data exercise, which takes about thirty minutes.
Applications close 31/10/26.
We want a team from a range of backgrounds and are happy to adjust our process for anyone who needs it — just tell us what would help.
