Grabbing Interview Opportunities

Top Qualities in Candidates to Bag Sure Shot Internships

During these trying times, candidates need to use all the tools at their disposal to stand out from the crowd. Indeed, you are well aware by this point that there is some degree of unfairness in the internship industry. You can meet every "necessary skill" and "recommended qualification" for an internship posted online and still not get an interview. You may be wondering - What am I failing to see? It turns out that most employers have quite specific expectations from interns. Below we discuss the top qualities in candidates to bag them sure-shot internships.

Top Qualities in Candidates to Bag Sure Shot Internships
There are various skills, technical as well as non-technical that are most sought after by the employers. Not everyone can have all the skills but there are some qualities, or you may say attributes that if you, as a candidate possess, may land the job quicker than other candidates.
It doesn’t matter what industry or domain you would start your career with.
Recruiters and hiring managers look for the following qualities in any candidate. We did some research, reached out to recruiters and hiring experts to understand the characteristics that would make you an outstanding candidate.

1.    Modesty
One has to be modest, kind and accepting while working their way towards the success in their career. If you are humble, you will be a good team player, and eventually a better leader. Employers have their ears open for instances where you won the show through ‘we’ instead of ‘I’. In any interview, hiring panel pays acute attention to your attitude and maturity levels, hence, being a modest person will always help you instead of going against you.

2.    Pro-Activeness
Are you willing to do something new, make efforts to get trained and upskill yourself for the same? If it’s a yes, then you are definitely in. A proactive quality makes you a go-getter by default, and everyone wants an employee who can grow themselves along with the growth of the company. Instead of expecting everything from the organization, the ‘how can you benefit them’ gesture would work better.

3.    Quick Learner
Everyone needs some training, but no one will spoon feed you. You come with knowledge and the will to work, they help you will sharing the skills. It’s your duty to understand the processes as best as you can, with less hand holding and more initiative taking. They look for the agility in you, expect the experiences where you could handle the challenges with your quick learning capabilities.

4.    Curiosity
Ask the right questions, and ask them openly. When employers see your curious attitude, they found it better to interact with you. Of course, there’s a fine line between being nosey and being inquisitive. But having queries about your roles and responsibilities, any upgrades that you could require, the business aspects can set you as an intelligent candidate, as opposed to a dull one.

5.    Optimism
Positivity is a powerful attribute. When candidates seem positive about themselves, they portray an impressive picture in front of the panel. This increases their chances of getting selected. If they sound dubious or unsure about themselves, it puts off the interviewers. To be clear, one doesn’t need to be boastful or a smiling man, but when they know what they are doing, that steals the show.

6.    Accountability
When candidates come out as reliable during initial conversations, that sets the tone for future. It’s important for any employee to be accountable for his/her tasks. Your reliant attitude shows that you can be trusted with projects and other aspects of the job, which, trust me, is a huge compliment. Show that you are accountable for your conduct and appear for interviews on time. Interact with the panel as and when requested, without any botch ups and excuses.

7.    Honesty
If you are dishonest, it will show in your way of speaking. Hiring panel is adept at reading a candidate’s demeanor. Misleading information, trying to cover up incorrect answers with more dishonesty is a dealbreaker. No one wants such workers. So no matter what, stay honest and transparent about your experience, skills or anything that the employer wishes to know.

8.    Progressive
A candidate who has done his homework comes to the interview prepared, to answer the questions, as well to ask the right questions. That’s how they can be termed as progressive, broad-minded, open to new arenas, and not afraid to know more about the job or the company. Likewise, mentioning the experiences, the achievements, sharing the goals on the CV/Cover Letter would help set your candidature level in a good way.

These are some top qualities in any candidate that can bag the sure shot internships. Your CV is also a reflection of these qualities, hence don’t leave them out. Create it in a manner that excites the hiring panel to have a discussion with yourself, irrespective of your profile matching with the job description skills. Who knows they may create a job based on your skills!
