Grabbing Interview Opportunities

All about Career Goals

One can set goals for one's career. Goals, aspirations, and aspirations in the realm of one's working life. Long-term goals include being the CEO of your ideal firm or running your own thriving business, while short-term goals include things like receiving a promotion or certification. We'll tell you all about career goals in this post.

All about Career Goals
What are Career Goals?

They are the milestones candidates’ hopes to achieve in their professional life, moving up the ladder, accomplishing several feats, holding various certifications as they go about their work journey. Sure the money will always increase, but there is more to pay cheques for an employee. That is where other career goals come in. Recognition, praise, additional perks and benefits, reaching a particular designation and much more forms a part of career goals.
Ideally people are asked about 1 year, 5 year or 10 year goals. And one should always have a set of goals at least when about to start a new job. They must know where they want to be in the next 3 or 5 years at least. This will help them manage their work, upskilling, networking, in a streamlined way.
Career Goals are a way of telling “where you are now is just the beginning, but where you should be next is what your journey will consist of”.

The Importance of Career Goals
1.    They drive you ahead: Having career goals means you are ambitious and want to be at the next level after a few months/years.
2.    They help you succeed: With goals in order, your skills in place and your steps in the right direction, no one can stop you from succeeding. But without an aim what would you work hard for? Hence, goals.
3.    They motivate you: When you have the goals defined, that particular thought motivates you to work more, and better. It motivates you to achieve new heights, contribute to your organisation, and you become a precious asset for any company you’ll work for.
4.    Increase in trust factor: Employers trust candidates more when they have career goals in place. Candidates fumbling during interviews for speaking out their future plans are not considered for further rounds of interviews. The interview panel finds it tough to trust them to be of value.

Tips to Set and Achieve Career Goals
This is an important part of this article as it would guide you to create your career goals as soon as you are out of university, or even if you are still studying.
1.    Think of what you are good at.
2.    Think of what you want to be or achieve in future.
3.    Once you have that clear, understand, read, check out websites about what would be required to accomplish those achievements.
4.    If any additional courses or certifications are to be done, find about them and do them.
5.    If any vocational training is required for the same, look upon them and go through the training to hone your skills.
6.    Network with the people connected with your targeted field, be it on job or outside of job.
7.    Word hard as well smart to do whatever you can, to achieve them.
It’s not that big a deal to set your career goals, but it’s extremely essential to have a roadmap for yourself and create your career path accordingly.

Examples of Career Goals:
Some ideas about what kind of career goals can help you move ahead or talk about in interviews are as below:
1.    Learning XYZ technology/Skills/Craft
2.    Becoming a Lead/Manager/Sr. Manager
3.    Improving Company Culture
4.    Growing the sales/customer base/revenue
5.    Create bug free software
6.    Gaining field expertise
7.    Getting Promoted or Winning Award
8.    Lead a team of 10 or more people

It doesn’t matter if you set long term goals or short terms. You should be focused on achieving them, despite all twists and obstacles coming in between. There might be times when you would want to modify those goals as well. But do not hesitate to work accordingly since those updates would also be a part of your success only.
Candidates can have or make as many goals as they want to, provided they follow practical and reasonable ways to attain them.
