Dear Interns - You are more than Just an Intern!

You've finally made it to your internship at the company of your dreams, and you couldn't be more excited. You never know what doors will open on your first day of an internship. If you make the most of the opportunities presented to you during your internship, you can significantly advance your career. How, then, can an intern prove his or her worth to the team while also making the most of its opportunities? Read on to understand that you are not just and intern, but have the immense possibilities to be much more than that.
Dear Interns - You are more than Just an Intern!
You are not just an intern. While you may have started in this role, it's important to recognize your potential and understand how to succeed as an intern. You may go on to become a full time employee. You have immense capabilities and skills. Don't defend subpar thinking that "oh, I'm an intern"– because you aren't. Consider yourself as full-time, paid staff at the same level to create an impact.  Here’s how you can beat this mentality and become a self-assured professional.

1.    Focus on Learning and Growth

Recognize that internships are stepping stones in your career journey. Focus on gaining experience and making the most of your internship. Rather, become as greedy as you can about learning. Get used to volunteering for the unpleasant aspects; these less than glamorous activities often provide the best way to learn new abilities and understand what ticks the firm.

2.    Build Strong Relationships

All of your colleagues must have begun from somewhere, and maybe they also went through internships. Let go of your fears and anxiety by connecting to the right people around you. Ask questions as an intern. Make sure that you don't give up your everyday work, but control and connect with your time. Understanding the career base of your teammates will help you understand your position's significance and your career path.

3.    Take Ownership and Responsibility

Once you stabilise yourself as an intern, it's crucial to own it. Think of how you can add extra benefits through your role. While some of these things might be easier and more difficult — following your goals will ease you up. Creates action steps and a time management strategy if your job is well-defined. Be on top of the game even if you are just an intern.

4.    Develop a Growth Mindset

Many candidates assume that their fundamental attributes, such as intelligence or skill, are simply permanent attributes. Instead of improving, they waste their time documenting their intelligence or talent. By selecting an approach to grow and succeed, you will improve not just professionally but personally too.

5.    Earn Trust Through Your Work

New work environment might be disturbing while starting in a new job. Of course, we want to know if we're doing good or not. But don’t do everything just for praise and good words. Sure praises are good and all, but at the end of the day are people willing to work with you? Do your superiors feel you are ready to take on more responsibilities? If the answers to these questions come positive, that should be your biggest praise.

If you are committed to do so, each individual may leave a lasting impression. Employers will recognise that they're going to need to teach you along the road, but you'll impress them if you're willing to spend as much in them as they are willing to. Understand that you have to grow and thrive. Your designation might be of an inetrn but eventually you'll be a full time employee. The earlier you start acting like one, better the opportunities that will knock at your doors.
