Interview question “How Do You Handle Conflict”
Conflict is an element of life that is disagreeable, yet essential. When you start your new job, you will meet and work with individuals having varied personalities. Everyone will have their own way of doing things—and its pretty normal for conflicts to come up during team work.
Interviewers commonly question, "How do you handle disagreements" to evaluate whether you can resolve problems in a calm and productive manner. How would you respond, so you don’t sound crude?

In this article, you will learn how to answer that and prove that you don’t budge by mere interactive problems within a team. But first understand the various ways in which you might be asked this question.

1.    Summarise your perspective on the concept of conflict in two lines.
2.    Describe an instance when you were a part of the conflict, it's okay even if it was during your university tenure, speak about it.
3.    Tell us about a moment when, and how, you disagreed with somebody.
4.    Do you argue with others over assignments and deadlines, or anything work related?
5.    How do you handle when your superiors do not agree with your points?
6.    Do you consider conflict to be either positive or negative attribute?
7.    While working in a team, how would you cope with different views?

These are how interviewers usually go about asking questions on conflict. Instead of feeling overwhelmed you should stay calm, think for two minutes and respond as best as you can.

How can you Frame your Response?
Your responses would be a glimpse into how you handle conflicts while at work, so you need to answer mindfully as well. This is considered a behavioral question and requires an explanation with a good example.

1.    Describe about the conflict in concise manner.
Give a small briefing as to what the conflict was about, how to start, etc.

2.    How were you a part of it?
What was your role in the whole instance? Did you start it or were you forced to be a part of it?

3.    How did you deal with the conflict?
Explain how your resolved it and what measures you took for the same

4.    Share the Outcome
Mention how your involvement helped with conflict ending, along with the positive impact it had on the team members.

Even during internships conflict is part and parcel of professional lives. It’s not an out-of-the-box question where you simply state that “No, I don’t do conflicts” or “Oh, they were just fun fights, they don’t mean anything”. As you move towards scoring an internship, your conduct and experience during university days also helps in mentoring your thought process. Hence instead of taking this question for granted, be prepared for it because if answered correctly, it may impress the interviewers immensely.

The best way to address interview questions on workplace conflicts is to be forthright and to highlight your capacity for open communication and peaceful problem-solving. It's important to be transparent if you change your mind about the conflict's resolution. Demonstrate to the interviewer that you are teachable and receptive to feedback.
