COVID-19 has already changed the world in certain sense. Even when the pandemic has been over, employees in every industry will still be affected. Regardless of wether you already hold a job or are searching for one, if you want to get to the top of your field, you need the right skills for this new reality. Focus on one or more important, in-demand skills to show that you are the best person for a steady, well-paying job.

For fresh university pass outs, class of 2020 and 2021 has likely been through online mode only, a lot of which probably went into undefined holidays. But universities are working hard to get their students the education they deserve.
In such hard times, whether it's good or bad, it's the student's job to toughen up and learn both hard and soft skills that will keep them in demand even after the pandemic is over.

There are endless opportunities available for freshers, but they also need to work on themselves to show their capability for the same. Following attributes can help you understand the kind of skills required for a long haul in any workplace.

1.    Communication Skills:
The first and foremost for any candidate, be it an experienced one or a graduate, excellent communication skills are a must. They help you make your way into the world with ease, and employers accept you readily due to the same.
This is one such skill that can get you a good job even if you lack other required skills. A lot of jobs depend only on good communication. Be it your native language or any others you like to learn, even if it’s your hobby, become an expert in it. It’s not restricted by pandemics and disasters. It will be there with you always.

2.    Leadership:
The other skill you need to be good at is Leadership. Employers need good leaders. Even though you join them as an intern or a graduate, if you show good leadership skills, you can move up the ladder pretty quickly.
It's not necessary that only managerial or directorial positions possess these skills, even a tier-1 team member may become a good lead in the best/worst of circumstances. People know that they need good leaders today, and not just in companies, but to run nations too. Leaders who can manage their teams through tough times are the assets for any company.

3.    Tech Savvi-ness:
Technology is a global darling today. Almost everything is running on technology today. So if you gain an expertise in technical skills of any sort, rest assured that you have a bright future ahead.
Before the pandemic, sure tech-savviness was in trend, but during and after, it’s become important than ever. So candidates must get technically strong to get a good job and stay there for years. There is no dearth of learning tools or tech jobs, employers are only looking for people who are good at it.

4.    Strategic Thinking:
In current times, good strategies for business growth or employee wellness are playing a significant role. People with good strategy forming skills are preferred. There is a ton of news almost every hour, which affects the global numbers immensely.
Shares and ratings fluctuate frequently. In such times candidates asking the right questions of, Why, How, Who, When, Where?, can help companies sail through, and even thrive.

5.    Data and Analytics:
Experts in data mining and analytics are gathering all the information we know about the areas or people affected by Covid-19. Where would the world be right now if we didn't know these things?
Analytics is now essential to the status, growth, and success of a business. Companies can plan their next steps with the help of data, which should lead them to success. For a safe job run, people who are good with numbers and making decisions should work more and get better at this skill.

6.    Adaptability:
Remote working has become a new norm for most occupations. Thanks to technology, a lot of tasks can be done by sitting at home or anywhere in the world. Complete businesses are running on same platforms.
This has become possible because employees have adapted themselves with the changes. Students or Graduates looking for interning must get acquainted with this new model and take up remote working offers coming their way. If employers are looking to provide benefits, even the younger lot must make efforts to stay open and increase their changes of employability.
 
7.    Innovation:
With the changing work environment, companies frequently keep looking for innovation and newness regarding work culture, technology, leadership, and managing teams plus expenses.

Just like machines are helping humans with daily new enhancements, graduates like you can bring fresh perspective and ideas to work. Your proactivity can increase productivity as against the mundane routines. Realise that you have a lot of energy and knowledge which if directed correctly can help companies achieve amazing feats, and you can get better opportunities to grow.
