Grabbing Interview Opportunities

Essentials to Receive an Impressive Letter of Recommendation

Most corporate applications for internships have a section specifically requesting recommendation letters. When applying for internships at a graduate level, you will typically need letters of recommendation. While a list of references is typically all that's asked for in a job application, you might occasionally be asked to provide a letter of recommendation as well. Attaching an impressive letter of recommendation to your cover letter or application might help you stand out from the competition, even if it isn't specifically requested.

Essentials to Receive an Impressive Letter of Recommendation
An internship, employment, or graduate school may require you to submit an official letter of recommendation. This letter should be written by a professional who can vouch for you as a strong contender. How do you go about requesting one—and making sure it strengthens your case? The following ideas can help you receive the letter of recommendation you desire.

People who know you well should be your first choice.
Consider who you would like to contact. Try thinking about people you've spent or worked with for long periods of time. Ones who can speak highly of your abilities in the academics as well as in other areas of your life.
Talk to instructors, club advisers, and bosses who are acquainted with your work and ask for their advice. In the unusual event that one of the persons you approach is unable to write a letter for you, you should have a backup plan in place.

Reach out in advance.
Discuss the matter before issuing a referral request to each person. By discussing your candidacy with them earlier, they will be able to understand more about your interests, ambitions, and why this prospect is so critical to you professionally.
Therefore, when they begin drafting your letter, they'll be more prepared. Consult them to see whether they have the time and capability of providing you with a positive reference letter for your application.
Faculty and supervisors are busy, so ask as early as you can. At least a couple of weeks prior of your requiring the letter would be good.

Include supplemental resources & catchphrases in your presentation.
It's important to submit an official request through email to your recommender when they agree to create a letter for you. In addition, they can use the following resources to help them create an informative and customised letter:
•    The job, graduate programme, employment, etc. job role and description
•    You can download a copy of your submission and share with them
•    What do you do apart from studies, any volunteering or additional classes?
•    Curriculum vitae/list of relevant work experience
•    Please provide a copy of your transcript

All this information will help them create an impressive letter. Be sure to mention the application deadlines and any other information they'll need in your email message. You can also include an addressed, pre-stamped envelope if they need to deliver the letter apart from your application.

Continue to follow up and thank you.
Sending a handwritten thank-you note to anyone who has taken the opportunity to compose a letter for you is essential. As for your friends and family, don't keep them in the dark about your submissions. Keep them informed of your status and let them know if you're employed or not. As eager as you are for your new chapter, they will also be!
