Crafting Your Profile

How can Interns have an Impressive CV?

Your CV's success or failure may depend on the details it contains, its layout, and structure. There is no foolproof method, but we can provide some guidelines to help you create something that stands out. know your strengths and weaknesses before applying for jobs or deciding on a profession.

How can Interns have an Impressive CV?
Internships are a great way to gain professional experience not just by doing part-time but by becoming a permanent team member if interns work smart enough. But even if its internship, employers still look for decent skills before offering an internship. Candidates may have amazing scores in their studies but that takes a back seat when vying to get a place in their dream company. Employers want to know what all they have to offer apart from their excellent GPAs.
As an intern you may not have done much in university, but you still learn a lot by the time you graduate. So, when you create your CV to apply for internships, you need to make it look impactful. To gain that dream internship, you need to showcase your skills suitably. We’ll tell you what the employers expect in your CV as an intern:

Introduce Yourself:
As part of introducing yourself, talk about your platform. Then, talk about where you are in your studies, why you want to do this internship, and what you can bring to the table that others can't.
Employers will be more likely to remember you if you stick to your goals and talk about them clearly. This will increase your chances of being chosen.

Technical Skills:
Its understood that you are not an expert in the required domain of the company. But you should be aware of the basics at least, like computers, the basic software, upcoming trends and related terminology. Thorough research on the domain will help you gain bonus points above other candidates. Mention your technical skills point wise which makes it easier to comprehend.

Communication:
One of the main points that attracts a candidate’s CV is the communication skills. CVs can be created in many ways but the most to-the-point, professional, informative ones are selected pretty quickly. It also shows your writing skills. Clear and crisp writing attracts employers, so don't just create, make some efforts and ‘curate’ your content carefully. Correct usage of grammar is imperative, and must not be taken lightly.

Personal and Educational Portfolio:
Try to keep it systematic. Your name, phone number, email address are the basic and the most important details that will help the employer contact you. Mention them at the top corner, clearly and correctly. Then comes your education, which should include your scores, your relevant coursework, any awards that you bagged, and some details of your extra-curricular activities. Mention your objectives next, that will give the employer further insight into your professional self.

Experience:
Employers are aware that you may be an inexperienced candidate, but you might be doing freelancing, or assist in your family business, worked as a volunteer at an NGO while studying. You should mention all of that in your CV briefly. That experience will count as your USP while applying for an internship. Your experience should highlight your achievements while you were at your university or if you gained some skills externally.
For eg: You ran a weekly news club at your university so highlight its name and write underneath something similar as:
*Researched and covered university events and produced 5 informative stories every week.

Formatting:
It’s very important that your CV is legible and every point mentioned in it is in place. Bold the headings where required, avoid usage of CAPS, use the standard fonts like Calibri or Garamond and font size as 12. Even if it's your internship, never forget that it’s the first step to a successful career if you pay attention to these minute details.

Your CV gives a picture of who you are. Employers hire people who can create smart CVs. The above tips will help you create them, if you want to apply for an internship. To apply for an internship, your CV needn’t be 10 pages long, instead, all the relevant information mentioned appropriately will not take more than a page and a half. Creating a good CV is a great skill that every graduate must become an expert in.
