Creating Impressive CV while Switching Careers
Career Change is not easy. It has its challenges, but its also not a Herculean task, provided you have done your homework well, mentally, financially, and professionally. By professional homework, here we mean, updating your CV to the level that it convinces the hiring managers without second thoughts.
Understand that you have skills. That’s what you will bring on the table with the new internship. But how do you mention this on your CV, so it doesn’t look that you are unfit for the role or have newly explored the field? Let's understand how to impress the prospective employers with your new CV for the internship.

1.    Do you know what you want to do?
Switching careers blindly will do a good job of throwing yourself in a dry well. Your head will break, and it’ll be nearly impossible for you to get out. Hence, staying aware of your career choices is extremely important. Do some research about the fields you want to get into.

Understand the education, skills it would require, along with its market value. Once you get an idea of what you want to do, and what is available for you in the market, you would be able to assess and match your skill set with the same. Now mention that on your CV.
Review job postings, talk to your contacts in your interested domain, and find out how to ready yourself for the next step.

2.    Know which CV type would work best for you
Now, there are Combination CVs and Functional CVs. Both can be used given the kind of switch you are looking forward to.

•    If you wish to mention your best achievements and transferable skills, and are relevant, use a combination CV.
•    If you are looking for specific domain to work in, there your skills would work better rather than your experience(volunteer or freelance). You should go for a Functional CV in such a case.
No matter which format you go with, mentioning your strengths is must on the CV. It better be mentioned in the summary though.

3.    Focus on the Transferable Skills
Once you get a grip on the requirements of the market for your job switch domain, make a list of all the transferable skills you have, that you can use to benefit the organisation. Hiring managers prefer such skills. That helps them understand your responsible and independent attitude towards work. Hence, write down what you are good at and mention those on your CV.

4.    Choose the right medium
Going digital is the need of the hour, so the more you can reach out to people online, the better it gets. Sign up at Gradiatewise.com where you can meet with several potential employers looking for the skills you have. Go digital through this platform that allows you to upload a video CV as well. Not only that, you just feed in your info on the portal, and it creates your CV.

Apart from these essentials, candidates looking for a career switch must be aware of this new field. They must keep themselves upgraded, so they don’t look blank when appearing for interviews. Your new CV would throw light on your best traits, so make sure to create one with a sense to create an impact better than before.
