Crafting Your Profile

Essential Tips to Create a Successful Education Section

While reviewing CVs, education is a top priority for many companies. Your interviewers will gain additional insight into your qualifications for the position thanks to the details you provide about your experience and education. This area has the potential to instantly distinguish you from other candidates if your schooling is very relevant to the post or includes any qualifications that are needed to be hired.
Essential Tips to Create a Successful Education Section
The education section in your CV is just as important as other sections and should be written clearly to highlight your academic background. As you must understand, no matter at what stage of your career you are, mentioning the education on your CV also alters accordingly. Here are some essential CV education section tips every candidate should consider when writing their resume.
We, at Graduatewise.com, strive to guide and educate you about these facts, along with assisting you because it’s essential to understand the importance of creating your career in the right way.
  • For fresh out of college graduates, mentioning education before any sort of experience or volunteer work would be good. Mention any certifications, awards, the highest scores, in the section that would highlight your strengths.

Below is an example:

2016 Masters in Technology Oxford University, UK 4.20 GPA
2014 Bachelors in Technology University of London, UK 3.70 GPA
  • For experienced professionals, with at least 3+ years of experience, mentioning experience before the education would seem better. The reason behind is, any employer would look forward to your skills and experience first, instead of where did you complete your graduation from, or how many stars you received in that lemon race. Just mentioning your GPA won’t work here.
  • Also, with experience, there also comes an increase in certifications or the kind of education you are pursuing. Working on a PhD. or Masters in your respective domain makes you look like a futuristic and ambitious person, good for your profile.

Below is an example:

•    Pursuing Masters in Data Science University of London, UK
•    Masters in Coding and Architecture University of Cambridge, UK
•    BSc. in Information Systems University of Cambridge, UK
  • For candidates’ currently-pursuing any degree, you can place your education section below your summary statement, besides the work experience. It’s good to mention the in-progress education because employers do question about the same, and you get a chance to show off your learnings. Mention if you are doing some paperwork or research and how it’s going to be beneficial for your career as well as the company.

Below is an example:

Currently pursuing Big Data Hadoop Certification Training Course
  • In case of incomplete education, highlight the best skills that you have possessed overtime. You can also list your Education Institute, for information. Cite any practical real life experiences related to the job role you are pursuing, and which might interest the employers.

Below is an example:

BSc in Architecture University of London, UK
Completed 4 semesters in 2019.

A generic template for listing your Education in any form, would look like:

Name of the Degree: Bachelors’/Masters’ (start with your latest degree)
University Name:
Years of Attendance:
Honors/Awards/Scholarships received while completing the degree:

A few more points to keep in mind while writing down your education:

•    Keep it short, and informative.
•    Instead of taking too much space on the CV, your education section should portray your skills in sync with the job role.
•    Listing a high school education is not mandatory if you hold a glowing college/university degree.
•    Don’t hold back if you haven’t finished your education or are pursuing it. Mention it as it would still be relevant.

Curating every section thoughtfully to create your CV is crucial to creating an impact on the employer. Hiring Managers/Recruiters mostly look for the data and information on your CV but the presentation never goes unnoticed. Graduatewise.com helps the candidates with this process pretty easily.
