Graduated, now what?

How to Network Correctly to Build your Career

Building a professional network is essential for career growth and advancement. It's a great way to meet other people in your field and find out about new opportunities and developments in your field. In order to achieve your professional goals, it is important to develop a strong network, and doing so requires research on the best strategies for doing so. But how do you network correctly to build your career having just completed your graduation? Lets see.
How to Network Correctly to Build your Career
Networking for getting a hold of internships is pretty common. But there are students who don’t really have many, or you can say, the right kind of contacts to guide and assist them through the process. If you are one of them, this is just the article for you.
Networking for career advancement doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming. You just have to follow the below tips to make sure you are not left alone and clueless about how to reach out to people for internship information.

1.    Create Your Networking List

It’s simple, open Google Sheets and write down every name that you feel could help you with the purpose. Your friends, working in the same sector, your mentors or your college mates, even you family members might get a place on this list. Ideally they should be someone with whom you are in contact with at least a couple of times a year.
The sheet will include the individual's name, current position and company, contact information about how you met them and how they've been professionally engaged. This could help you narrow down the potential contacts.

2.    Approach Contacts Professionally

When it comes to establishing and managing a network, younger folks make one of the biggest mistakes, namely that they do not know how to connect with the professional connections.
•    Some fast networking tags to reach your network:
•    Don’t jump in asking directly for a job.
•    Stay courteous and ask clear questions.
•    If you are emailing, keep it short, mentioning just the critical points.
•    If you have numerous queries, better to talk over a call rather than email.
•    Be aware of the time of others
As I said before, it should not be a huge issue if you keep in contact with your network.

3.    Utilize Social Media for Networking

To begin with, social media was just for entertainment, but that's not the case any more. It provides a range of ways to expand your network by locating and contacting relevant experts. The main thing is to locate, approach and connect with people you already know, people you want to know and people you need to know.
SM is an open method to grow your network at your own speed, be it Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or another network. It's not for personal use alone, you should be able to use it to grow professionally as well.

4.    Offer Help to Your Connections

When you try to build your own network, it's easy to get involved in what you need and what your professional life looks like.
When you add more people to your list, one of the most important things you can do is make sure you help as many of your connections as you can. People often ask others for small favours, like letting them know about a great opportunity on social media or inviting them to a company party.
These small favours add up to make you a good link for other people. It becomes easier to build your network as soon as you start helping others.

The ability to network is crucial in any setting, whether professional or personal. Creating a strong professional network puts you in touch with influential people who can assist you in your job hunt and provide valuable resources as you move ahead in your chosen field. Developing and strengthening your connections is facilitated by knowing and using the tools necessary to do so.
