Grabbing Interview Opportunities

Important Tips to Dress for a Job Interview

It's just as vital to dress the part as it is to write a great CV and cover letter. The interview or career fair is where all of your preparation and practise will pay off. Let's not confuse the issue. The question of what to dress to a job interview is not one with a simple answer. In order to be hired for certain positions, you need to have everything but a tuxedo. The majority of Employers could care less if you wear a suit or dress trousers and a blouse to an interview.

Important Tips to Dress for a Job Interview
One most common quote ‘First Impression is the Last Impression’ rules our lives pretty frequently. It applies the most when you are appearing for an interview. Having a good impression on the interview panel also includes dressing up well. It is considered an important factor for the same. While you have chosen your industry to work in, you must also know what kind of attire the company prefers.

It’s true that more than 70% of business prefer formal dress-up at their workplace, but the rest of 30 do not exactly encourage miniskirts or flashy clothes. Keep in mind that going to any office for giving an interview requires the candidates’ to be careful about their dress up. They need to look professional and well groomed, in spite of the company allowing casual wear.

So how do the candidates decide what to wear while appearing at an interview? Let us look at some tips that would help them dress better for their next interview:
1.    Dress as per the Industry
If it is a traditional industry, candidates should wear more formal corporate attire. Usually for men, its formal pants/trousers with shirts and tie, and for women its formal shirt/blouse and skirt/trousers.

2.    Research what the company prefers
Getting an idea about what kind of clothes are worn by their employees will help you select your outfit better. Go through their website and videos to know more about the same.

3.    Wear comfortable clothes
Do not wear skimpy or too tight clothes for an interview. Candidates must choose an outfit that is comfortable yet presentable to be in, such that they are able to focus better on the interview instead of keep adjusting their clothes.

4.    Avoid overthinking
If you think too much about what to wear, you may choose the wrong outfit, or over dress or underdress. Hence, try and keep it simple, follow the usual code, and you will be set for the interview. Anything that makes you feel confident would do only good for such an occasion.

5.    Keep the climate in mind
If it’s warm, choose something comfortable yet respectable, and if it’s cold, go for something warm yet professional. There are all types of clothing available for formal dress up, as per the weather, hence check out what the weather allows and dress up accordingly.

6.    Check for any wear and tear
It’s important that you do not wear clothes with stains, or additional stitches or holes. Employers, or anyone else for that matter would always expect the candidates to come in clean and well groomed, hence double-check the state of your clothes before you finalise them for wearing at an interview.

Also ensure that they are devoid of any wrinkles. Any sign of laziness while dressing up may reduce their chances of getting hired.
The right outfit is of utmost importance when you, as candidates are about to meet the employers for the first time. Your skills may be excellent but if you fail to look presentable while meeting them, you may lose some points and that would go against your overall conduct. Treat the interview discussion as a formal one always and prepare your dress up as per the guidelines above, in order to give your employers a better candidate experience.
