The portfolio will still be updated on a regular basis, though. Your portfolio in architecture is more of a statement of who you are and what you care about than anything else. Creating an architecture internship portfolio without prior experience can be challenging, but with the right approach, it's achievable. Keeping detailed records is an essential part of the portfolio-making process. If you have already begun documenting your work, you can consider your online portfolio to have begun. It's important to keep copies of anything you create, whether it's digital files, hand-drawn drawings (by scanning), or physical models (by photographing). Don't forget to keep track of your participation in any extracurricular events, including seminars, site visits, or tours that are linked to the course. Which ones belong in the portfolio can be decided at a later time. As an architecture student its important to keep a track of your work chart.

Embrace Continuous Learning During Your Internship

If you want to get into architecture school or land a job in the field, you should find out what is expected of a portfolio before you start putting together anything. You should also look into the backgrounds of architectural firms to get a sense of their philosophy, methodology, and the kinds of clients they often work with. You can really put your newfound skills to use in interviews and make a good impression on potential employers. First impression matters, hence showing your architectural design skills, certifications, awards is important. 

Focus on Quality Over Quantity in Your Work

In your last year of architecture school, you will have completed a large number of projects to include in your portfolio. Should all of them make it to the portfolio? No! Keep in mind that it is better to focus on quality than quantity, and that a portfolio is more than just a collection of work. Like a CV, the first few pages of a book are crucial to keeping the reader interested. Companies may receive hundreds of CVs for a single open position, so reviewing each and every project in an architecture portfolio is simply not feasible. In order to capture the attention of the reader and keep their interest as they peruse your portfolio, you should present your best work in a narrative format.

Tailor Your Portfolio to the Intended Audience

One way to create a portfolio is to understand for whom you are using your skills for. There are several portfolio templates available for diverse jobs or internships. Create a few portfolios, demonstrate your skills and share with potential employers based on their requirements. To be a successful architect, project selection should be made keeping in mind both the audience and the message you wish to convey. Is it a goal of yours to demonstrate proficiency in 3D modeling and visualisation? Do you want to keep your knowledge and enthusiasm to yourself? What kind of story are you hoping to tell? What design skills will please the audience? You'll find the answers to these thoughts by asking these questions to yourself. 

Align Your Portfolio with the Company's Vision and Culture

The projects you select should be among your finest work, but they should also fit in with the overall profile of your architecture firm. Employers will want to see the skills and abilities that cater to their goals. Project selection is just as crucial as architectural company selection while seeking work experience. You shouldn't utilise the same work in your portfolio for applying to landscape architectural firms as you would for construction firms. For the former, you can feature construction and technical drawings, while for the latter, you can emphasise on projects with prominent landscape aspects by showcasing them in various drawings. The firm's design philosophy and the aesthetic that it has adopted, if any, are additional factors to think about.

The thesis or capstone project from a student's senior year is often recommended to be the first project included. However, if you are already an intern, it is important to focus on your finest achievements while applying to other firms. Projects that aren't related to architecture can be put off until later.

Keep Your CV in Mind Throughout the Portfolio Design

Important elements such as contact information, educational background, and list of transferable and employable abilities can all be found on a single CV page. It ought to be visually pleasing, with the emphasis placed appropriately on the most crucial details. Since the CV page typically comes first when you create an architecture portfolio, it serves as the reader's introduction to you and your abilities. CVs are frequently help companies eliminate applicants without the necessary skills. For design professionals, soft skills are just as crucial as technical ones, so be sure to highlight both. 

Showcase Experience That Complements Your CV

Your CV is complete with a list of your hard and soft skills. But do they show up in your architecture or design plans? Through the projects, you should be able to showcase your work and provide visual evidence of these abilities. A portfolio is a visual demonstration of your skills and experience. A strong portfolio includes a picture/pictures to back up your claim that you are proficient in Adobe Photoshop, like a portfolio of your work or a visual representation of a project. If you can, arrange for letters of recommendation from your professors or mentors. 

Regularly Review and Refine Your Portfolio

Finally, keep in mind the importance of regularly reviewing and updating your architecture portfolio. Right formatting is as important as the content. If you have decided to apply to varied firms, you may need to revise your portfolio to fit the standards of the different companies. It's also possible that you could have spent that time learning new software and improving your projects. Then it's time for an upgrade. The portfolio of architectural work is not a one-and-done task.

Keep in mind the importance of showcasing in-demand talents in your CV and portfolio while applying for architectural jobs. Choose your best work to add to the portfolio, present your work in a way that makes you stand out among other candidates. Create your portfolio showing your understanding of architectural design principles. An architecture career is a very fulfilling one if you are interested in variety of projects and designing spaces for clients.
