Grabbing Interview Opportunities

Best Interview Tips for Graduates

The interviewer will likely place more weight on your first impression than on your CV. In addition to your degree and work history, your demeanour, attitude, and communication skills will be considered. An engaging conversation between you and the interviewer is required. You can't tell if you, the company, or the position are a good fit without talking things out. Be prepared to get selected.

Best Interview Tips for Graduates
If you are shortlisted to be interviewed for the internship role, the next step is to prepare for cracking the interview successfully. Here we have mentioned a few tips for you to ensure that your interview gives you nothing but the good news.

1.    Know about the company
Its very important that you do your research on the company where you are to be interviewed. Going there blankly without any info on the organization is not going to give a good impression of you.
Go through their website, understand what they do, take a look at their team page, take in all the info that you can, so you know what exactly you are getting into. Going through their social media profiles will also give you a good insight into their working and environment.

2.    Pick your attire
Another essential point to take care of is, your dress up for the interview. If you are not aware of the dress code of the particular company, go with the standard formal clothing that would be good for any corporate set up. Be it the design studio, or your much-desired law firm, the well-groomed look with dressing up formally and with minimal makeup always works.
Please note that every industry has different expectations regarding the dress code, so it's always better to get an idea about the same, beforehand. Either ways, avoid going casually.

3.    Create your questionnaire
The reason to go through the website thoroughly is to be able to ask the right questions to the interviewer. Instead of asking dumb questions and queries, if you talk and discuss the company culture or any specific technology they are working on, would make a better impression. Hence, prepare your own set of questions to ask them, before you attend the interview.

4.    Carry your CV
Always carry a hard copy of your CV, even if your profile is created on Graduatewise.com, and/or you both got connected through the platform. It’s not always that the interviewer will have a copy in hand, and in the absence of your profile, it may get tough to go with the right flow.
It provides them a better glimpse of you as a person, along with your achievements and education. It helps them frame questions to understand you better. Having a CV with yourself makes you look responsible and thoughtful, so do not forget to carry one.

5.    Practice your interview
Before your big day, practice answering mock questions to boost your confidence and avoid the fumbling. You can practice with your family/friends or use your mirror. If doing with people, ask them for the feedback, so you can make required improvements.
Tell your friends to ask you all sorts of questions, so you will be well-prepared for various ways in which they can be asked by the interviewer. Google the set of questions generally asked an intern, and of course study well for anything related to your domain.

6.    Reach on time
Set your schedule such that you are not anxious or getting late for the interview. Keep your things ready and reach the venue on time. You know better about the distance and time to be taken to reach the venue so leave your home accordingly.
In fact, arriving 10 mins earlier will not hurt anyone, so take in your surroundings while you wait there for the interview to start. Also, keep your phone on silent while the interview goes on. If it rings, your impression goes down by a full notch.

7.    Carry Important documents
Many times the interviewers may ask for your work sample, like your freelance photography pictures, or the café that you designed for your friend, or that code that you did for creating your own website. So, keep your additional work docs with yourself should you have to show them to the employer.
It makes you look a proactive person who is keen on getting things done without any delays. But make sure you are not divulging any confidential info through those samples.

These are quite the practical steps that any would-be interns should take to create a good impression on the interviewer and secure the internship. Staying well-prepared makes you more confident, helps you avoid any mishaps and helps the employer takes decision without much second thoughts. As your interview gets over, do not forget to Thank them for allowing you this opportunity. Giving a small Thanks goes a long way.
